This program offers students the greatest freedom to select a course of study that suits their specific interests, both inside and outside of music. This track is ideal for those students who wish to pursue a minor or a double major in a subject outside of music. Students who have completed two semesters of study in other Bachelor of Arts programs in the University may transfer into this program and in most cases still complete the degree in four years.
Music elective credits (or when used as substitutes for music course credits) may be satisfied by either MUS or MUPI. In order for MUPI credits to count toward the degree, a jury is required. Students who take private piano instruction in lieu of Class Piano are not required to perform a jury. One of the music electives in the Major Area must focus on the music of a non-Western European region or on music that falls outside the scope of Western classical music (by advisement).
