The departments of music offer traditional conservatory-based performance degrees at both the master's and doctoral levels in orchestral instruments, voice, and piano as well as graduate degrees in pedagogy of voice or piano.

The master's level vocal pedagogy degree now has a musical theatre-pop/rock emphasis. Master's and doctoral degrees are offered in musicology, and in composition, which at the master's level has both concert and stage music concentrations. We offer degrees in Sacred Music at the master's and doctoral levels with emphases in choral conducting, organ or composition. The master of arts in teaching provides certification for students who wish to enter teaching as a profession but who did not complete an undergraduate degree in education. A joint master's degree in musicology and library sciences prepares students for careers in libraries, archives, and related institutions.
