Academic electives will include courses in the natural and behavioral sciences and the humanities. To graduate, piano principals must complete, at a minimum, Piano Level VIII. Requirements for all levels appear at the end of the Undergraduate section of the Catalog Announcements. MUS 118/518, 335, 337, and 457 are offered on a rotational basis. Students may take these courses out of the sequence listed, if necessary. History of Music I, II, and III (MUS 325, 326, 327) may be taken in any order.
Music education majors are required to take the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators (Core) Tests (formerly Praxis I) during their freshman or sophomore year. Praxis Subject Assessments (formerly Praxis II) must be taken when all courses are completed and before applying for licensure.
Students must register each semester for MUS 150 (Field Experiences in Music Education) until they acquire 100 hours of field experience.
