  • Dr. Christopher Pearlberg is an active performer and educator based in Washington, DC. He is the inaugural Director of Athletic Bands and serves as the conductor of the Wind Ensemble at the Catholic University of America. Chris has performed with ensembles such as the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Rhode Island Philharmonic, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Evansville Philharmonic, Springfield (OH) Symphony Orchestra, Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra, the Luzerne Music Center Faculty Brass Quintet, and the Majestic Brass. He previously served as Acting Principal Tuba of the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra, as well as an Associate Member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. While studying in Indiana, he was an active recording studio musician in Indianapolis. As a founding member of The Brass Roots brass ensemble, Chris performed extensively throughout the greater Pittsburgh area. He can be heard on the recording “Christmas at East Liberty”, released by The Brass Roots and organist Dr. Edward Alan Moore. Performances have been broadcast on Pittsburgh’s Classical WQED-FM 89.3 and KDKA-TV CBS Pittsburgh.

    As an educator, Chris previously served on the applied tuba faculty at the Luzerne Music Center, Campbellsville University School of Music, Indiana University Southeast, and Phillips Exeter Academy. He previously was the Director of Instrumental Music at St. Mary’s Ryken High School, where he conducted the Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Pep Band, taught courses in music theory, music history, and guitar, and served as music director for the school musicals. Chris was the Pep Band Director at St. Mary’s College of Maryland prior to coming to Catholic University. He has served in educational outreach programs by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.

    Chris completed a Doctor of Music degree in Music Literature and Performance with a Music Theory minor from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where he served as the Associate Instructor of Tuba and tuba studio assistant. Chris holds a Master of Music degree from Carnegie Mellon University, and a Bachelor of Music degree from Temple University. His teachers include Daniel Perantoni, Anthony Kniffen, Craig Knox, Carol Jantsch, and Jay Krush.
