The Department of Music administers placement exams to all entering students to assess their background in key areas. Some of these exams are available online, and others are administered in person. It is the responsibility of students and advisers to ensure that exams are completed prior to the first semester of study.

The Theory Evaluation Test (TET) is a one-hour online examination that all entering freshman Music majors must take prior to their first semester. Students pursuing a Music minor or Dance minor must also take this test.
