Mr. Zachary Levi is serving as a string specialist in the Music Education Division while currently completing his Doctorate of Musical Arts at Catholic University. As a faculty member at York College of Pennsylvania where he directs the YCP College – Community Orchestra, he teaches applied cello and string methods class, and coaches chamber music. Mr. Levi is also the conductor of the Lancaster County Youth Orchestra. In addition he teaches in the Southern York County School District where he conducts the orchestras at Susquehannock High School and Southern Middle School. Other conducting positions have included Wednesday Club Youth Orchestra and Center Stage Opera Company, both located in Harrisburg, PA. Guest conducting appearances have included the Hunt Valley Symphony Orchestra, LLMEA County High School Festival, Monroe County Junior High Orchestra, Finger Lakes Music Educators Association All County Orchestra Festival in Canandaigua, NY, Saratoga All-County String Orchestra in Mechanicville, NY, Area All-State Orchestra in Elmira, NY, and the Tompkins County All County Festival in Ithaca, NY. Mr. Levi’s formal conducting studies are with Robert Hart Baker of the York Symphony.
As a cellist, Zachary Levi has remained an active performer as a member of the York and Lancaster Symphonies as well as other solo recital engagements in the Central PA area. He has formerly played with Albany Symphony, Binghamton Philharmonic, Cayuga Chamber Orchestra and the New World Symphony, has performed in master classes for David Ying, Steven Doane, Paul Katz and Yo-yo Ma.
Mr. Levi holds a Master of Music in Cello Performance from the University of Akron where he studied with Michael Haber, and a Bachelor of Music degree from Ithaca College where he studied with Elizabeth Simkin. He also studied at the University of Cincinnati – College Conservatory of Music with cellist Lee Fiser.
